Dragon’s Dogma 2 – 8 tips for beginners

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is about to take players on an epic journey full of challenges and discoveries. With a vast world to explore and a variety of mechanics to master, beginners may feel a little lost. Do not fear! Here's a guide with 6 tips to help you start your adventure on the right foot.

Choosing the best Arisen and main Pawn duo

At the beginning of your journey in Dragon’s Dogma 2, a crucial choice must be made: the combination of vocations between you (the Arisen) and your main Pawn. With four starting vocations available, synergy between the Arisen and the main Pawn is essential for success. For example, if you choose to be an Archer or Mage, which are classes with great ranged attack power but vulnerable in direct combat, consider having a main Warrior Pawn, capable of absorbing and distributing damage, protecting you from nearby opponents.

Uncovering secret vocations and supreme techniques

Dragon’s Dogma 2 enriches the gaming experience with six unlockable vocations, opening up a range of strategic possibilities for both the Arisen and the Pawns. Additionally, Maister NPCs offer teachings on ultimate techniques for each class. These abilities, once unlocked, can be used regardless of the level of the active vocation, allowing you to employ powerful abilities without the cost of DCP (Discipline).

Adapt your vocation and use augments strategically

Vocation guilds, present in several settlements, are essential for customizing your approach to combat and exploration. In these locations, you can:

Change your vocation/class. Acquire new skills or improve existing ones. Obtain augments, that is, passive skills that improve your capabilities.

Remember, these changes require DCP, earned by defeating enemies and completing missions. It is important to highlight that each class offers unique augmentations that, once acquired, remain usable even when changing classes. For example, the Subtlety augment, obtained by evolving into the Thief class, reduces the chance of being targeted by enemies, a significant advantage for ranged attack classes.

Mastering Pawn commands

In Dragon’s Dogma 2, although it is not possible to directly control your Pawns, you can guide them efficiently using the D-pad (on consoles) or the number keys (on the keyboard). The controls are intuitive and essential for navigating different game situations:

Go: Encourages Pawns to move forward, explore points of interest, or lead the way to known destinations. The action varies depending on the situation, from advancing against enemies to locating valuable items. For Me: Causes the Pawns to group around you, ideal for avoiding unnecessary combat or when strategy requires regrouping. Wait: The Pawns will remain where they are, useful for stealth operations or preventing them from triggering traps. Help: Vital for critical moments, especially if Pawns have healing abilities, or to assist when affected by negative conditions.

The importance of inns for adventurers

Inns are more than just resting points in Dragon’s Dogma 2. They play crucial roles in managing your journey:

Storage: Deposit non-essential items to lighten inventory burden.Recovery: Sleep to fully restore your health and eliminate any losses.Autosave: The function to automatically save your progress is a vital safety net, activated periodically out of combat and when sleeping in inns.

Reviving Pawns in battle

All is not lost if your allies fall during combat. A visual representation indicates incapacitated Pawns, accompanied by a meter that gradually depletes. Get close and use the revive button to bring them back into the fight. For support Pawns, you need to recall them via a Riftstone, ensuring you always have your team at full strength.

Ferrystones: The Secret to Safe Escort Missions

In Dragon’s Dogma 2, Ferrystones are essential items for adventurers who seek efficiency and safety on their journeys. When embarking on escort missions or when needing to take an NPC to a certain location, Ferrystones emerge as a practical solution, allowing you to teleport both your allies and NPCs directly to the Portcrystals closest to the destination. To ensure the NPC teleports with you, simply carry them on your shoulders before activating the Ferrystone. This tactic is especially useful in delicate situations where the NPC's safety is a concern.

Street traders: Treasures on the move

In addition to fixed stores in cities, Dragon’s Dogma 2 offers the unique opportunity to negotiate with street traders. These itinerant vendors, easily identifiable by their large backpacks, carry items that are often not found in conventional stores. When you come across one of them, don't miss the chance to explore their exclusive merchandise, which may include rare equipment and items essential for your adventure.
